Welcome to South America!

You haven’t really travelled until you’ve taken on South America. Thirteen countries strong, the continent is home to astounding natural and cultural wonders, including the snowcapped peaks of the Andes, thousands of kilometres of magnificent white-sand beaches, captivating colonial towns and indigenous villages, and the Amazon rainforest – home to more plant and animal species than anywhere else on earth.

The challenge is deciding where to begin. With so much choice, it’s as though the continent was built for travel; a place that excites, thrills, challenges and infuriates.



You have three check in options for South America.
Either Brazil, Peru or Colombia.
Chose wisely as once you've checked you can not change your mind.
However you will not be disappointed ,as if you read below you will see that both all three of the countries are equally amazing. Seats are limited so put your name down quickly for tickets to the country of your choice.
(Once all the seats have been filled, more seats will be opened!)
Each country offers a different set of criteria to scrap. You will only scrap ONE country on this stop!

Check in will be open until midnight Friday October 26th! Criteria will be revealed Saturday 27th October. If you miss the check-in deadline, please pm Vicki (vickstar), or Anthea (redant) to have a country allocated to you!

Brazil:

Besides, being an increasingly important tourist destination in South America, Brazil has something to offer to everyone: from the largest tropical rainforest on the planet to thousands of fantastic beaches spread over 7,000 km coastline to unique spots for surfing and diving.

Its amazing diversity extends to the arts and cultural scene, customs, culinary traditions, massively popular celebrations such as Carnival and of course, soccer, making it a very unique South America travel experience unlikely to be found anywhere else in the world.


Brazil has an amazing range of impressive waterfalls of all sizes and shapes. Iguaçu Falls, in eastern Parana, is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world, truly a sight to see

One of the world’s largest parties, Carnaval , is held in Rio, in Brazil. But Carnaval, in all its colorful, hedonistic glory, is also celebrated in practically every town and city in Brazil.
Although Carnaval officially lasts five days, from the Friday to the Tuesday preceding Ash Wednesday, the festivities can begin weeks in advance. Other towns keep the party rolling for weeks afterwards.
Parades featuring elaborate floats flanked by thousands of pounding drummers and twirling dancers, is the culmination of the festivities – though the real action, Cariocas profess, is at the wild parties about town. Last year, Rio De Janeiro’s event alone attracted around 4.9 million people to the city, of which 400,000 were foreigners!

It is said that the first thing that a child does after learning to walk in Brazil, is to play soccer!
Besides, the brilliant Soccer players of Brazil, the Brazilian Soccer fans are well known all over the world for their fanaticism and madness surrounding the game of soccer. The largest soccer stadium is also situated in Brazil, Rio, complimenting the status of the event in Brazil.





Peru:

When travelling to Peru prepare to send your vision (and camera) into overdrive. Peru is home to snow-capped mountains, giant sand dunes, flocks of brightly hued tropical birds and postcard-perfect volcanoes.

Of all the destinations that one can consider while visiting Peru, almost every site that draws tourist attraction is to be found in the majestic mountains of the Andes. The Andes Mountains are not just know for its splendour and beauty, but also for the rich history that is held within the peaks and valleys of this vast region.

For many visitors to Peru and even South America, a visit to the lost Inca city of Machu Picchu is the sweet cherry on the top of their trip. With its spectacular location, it’s the best-known archaeological site on the continent. Despite having a great tourist influx, the site manages to retain its air of grandeur and mystery, and is a must for all visitors to Peru.

Peru is graced with over 3,700 butterfly species - more than any other country and equal to about 20% of the world total.
The great diversity and abundance of butterflies in Peru is partly due to the extraordinary range of climatic conditions and vast diversity of habitats. Together these create a vast array of ecological niches in which species can exist and evolve.




Colombia:

Colombia’s back. After decades of civil conflict, Colombia is now safe to visit and travelers are discovering what they’ve been missing. The diversity of the country may astonish you. Modern cities with skyscrapers and nightclubs? Check. Gorgeous Caribbean beaches? Check. Jungle walks and Amazon safaris? Check. Colonial cities, archaeological ruins, high-mountain trekking, whalewatching, coffee plantations, scuba diving, surfing, the list goes on.

In darker days people used to say, ‘if only it weren’t for the violence and
drugs, Colombia would be paradise.’ Well the drugs may still be here but
the violence is gone, at least for now, and it is, indeed, paradise. It is an easy
country to fall in love with, and many travelers do. It may well become your
favorite country in South America.


Colombia is the second most diverse country on the planet. Protected ecosystems, where scientific research or the simple delight of contemplating and experiencing are possible, make Colombia an exceptional nature destination.

Colombia is a paradise for birdwatchers as it is the number one country in bird diversity in the world. Colombia has 1876 bird species, equivalent to 20% of the world total!

Colombia is the 2nd biggest coffee producer in the world and the biggest producer of Arabica coffee, which is considered the highest quality bean. Colombian coffee has been recognized worldwide as having high quality and distinctive taste .Cultivation, processing, trading, transportation and marketing of coffee provides employment to many people in Colombia. The main importers of Colombian coffee are United States, Germany, France, Japan, and Italy
