Stop 4- North America! Check in before Friday October 5th
This leg of the race brings us to North America - so called, because the entire continent of North America is located in the Northern Hemisphere. It is the 3rd largest Continent in size and the 4th largest in population. Considering this - it is hard to believe that there are only 3 countries on the entire continent. America, Cananda and Mexico. We are however including Hawaii in this continent!
You have the choice of three different destinations within North America, either Mainland America, Canada or Hawaii
You will not be disappointed ,as if you read below you will see that all three of the countries are equally amazing. Seats are limited so put your name down quickly for a tickets to the country of your choice. (Once all the seats have been filled, more seats will be opened!) Each country offers a different set of criteria to scrap. You will only scrap ONE country on this stop!
Check in will be open until midnight Friday October 5th! Criteria will be revealed Saturday 6th October. If you miss the check-in deadline, please pm Sarah (sarah), Anthea (redant) , or Vicki (vickstar) to have a country allocated to you!

Here is a little info on each country to help you make your decision!
America (mainland):
America offers an astounding collection of natural and cultural wonders. From its dazzling cities, (both historical and modern) to the great plains and praries it offers a collage of extremes. You can spend time cooling off on the snow covered mountains, the fresh alpine lakes or the free flowing rivers. Or if you prefer, you can soak up the sun on the long expanses of golden beaches. For those that appreciate the 'less is more' beauty in nature, you can travel many days across barren deserts - the choice is entirely up to you.
America is the birthplace of LA, Las Vegas, Chicago, Miami, Boston, San Fransico and New York City – each a thriving metropolis whose name alone is synonomous with a million different ideas of culture, cuisine and entertainment. America has some of the most famous skylines, New York with it's Statue of Liberty, Crysler Building and Empire State building being one of the most easily recongised.
Architecturally speaking, buildings and structures such as those above, the Sears Tower, The White House and the Golden Gate Bridge can be recognized all around the world.
The USA is a huge country to explore and there really is something for every traveller. For lovers of the outdoors, the great American West still retains much of the allure that it did for early pioneers. Truly awe-inspiring natural formations such as the geysers of Yellowstone and the seemingly endless “Big Sky Country” of Montana make one feel as if the US goes on forever.
For those who love music, New Orleans is a must. With its jazz, Cajun, and Zydeco tunes, even when not celebrating Mardi Gras, it is a bopping hub of activity making it the perfect place for those who love to party. Dubbed the Crescent City it is known for its unique variety of food.
Though Americans may not enjoy the best reputation abroad, both cities and small towns alike are filled with friendly people who love to show off their home to visitors. Travellers to the US frequently remark on the warmth and hospitality of its people and more likely than not, you’ll return home with a better impression of Americans than before you left.
Canada:
From Banff to Baffin Island, from Tofino to Toronto, Canada is an amazing country. Whether you’re a hard-core adrenaline junkie looking for a back country adventure, an explorer heading out on a big road trip, a city-lover hunting for cutting-edge culture and fine cuisine or a combination of all the above, Canada ticks all the boxes.
Stretching 5,500km (3,400 miles) from the Atlantic to the Yukon-Alaska border, the world’s second largest country boasts an astonishing diversity of landscapes: It has thick and lush forests which are home to a staggering array of wildlife, spectacular mountain ranges which change considerably from white and pristine in winter, to many red, orange and yellow hues in fall (Fall in Canada is simply spectacular). It is less known for its rugged and unspoilt coastlines and its laid-back, cosmopolitan cities are complemented by remote, quirky outposts.
Canada’s people are as varied as its terrain; from the indigenous Inuit in the far North, to First Nations communities, British expats, fiercely proud Francophone peoples and a ever increasing Asian population. The warmth they exude is genuine and they will welcome visitors with open arms.
Canadian cities are progressive, vibrant and regularly feature on ‘best places to live’ lists. Toronto, a patchwork of diverse neighbourhoods, sits on the shore of Lake Ontario (which to the person on land looks much more like the ocean than any lake). Canada’s capital city, Ottawa, contains a clutch of great museums and the pretty Rideau Canal for ice skating in winter, where one can enjoy warm 'Beaver Tail's' for a tasty treat. YUMMO!!!!!!! Hidden in Montreal is an area called 'Old Montreal'. Seriously, coming here is like taking a step back in time....steeped in history and age old customs, with cobbled streets and alleyways hiding a multitude of 'artsy' stores and amazing eatery places. Here is the place to try poutine, a truly delectable delight of hot chips, gravy and cheese curds.
A stone’s throw from the Canadian Rockies, Calgary oozes oil wealth and flaunts its cowboy traditions. Vancouver, meanwhile, seems to have it all: from a number of inner city parks, one can veiw spectacular mountains while being minutes from it's beaches.
When in Canada, you simply can not ignore the outdoor activities available. You can ski steep chutes in British Columbia, kayak secluded bays in Nova Scotia or learn to lasso at an Albertan ranch. You can capture grizzlies on camera in the Yukon, watch open-mouthed as mammoth icebergs drift past the Newfoundland coast or listen in awe to the deafening roar of Niagara Falls. You can tour vineyards, dig for clams or slice through a succulent steak.
With its staggeringly beautiful scenery, multitude of outdoor activities, forward-looking cities and huge swathes of uninhabited wilderness, Canada offers countless opportunities to travellers.
Hawaii:
So many states claim uniqueness, but Hawaii really is one of the most unique. It also now boasts that it is the birthplace of the USA’s 44th president, Barack Obama. But this string of emerald islands in the cobalt-blue Pacific Ocean, over 2000 miles from any continent, takes a little work to get to.
Hawaii,as most travel agents remind us, is ‘paradise.’ If you can push past the hype you will find they are not far from the truth. Hawaii is about hiking sculpted cliffs and fiery volcanoes or diving coral-reef cities or treking through the jungle. It is sitting and drinking mai tais, overlooking gorgeous white beaches and topaz coloured seas. It is relaxing at sunset while listening to slack-key guitars. It is about slurping juicy ripe papayas and other exoctic fruits, while wearing hibiscus flowers in your hair.
By a lot of luck and some careful design, Hawaii is an almost perfect holiday destination. It is an enchanting multicultural society with roots in Polynesia, Asia, North America and Europe, and it is an expression of nature at its most luscious and divine.
If you visit Hawaii, you would be one of about seven million visitors come to experience paradise annually, but don't fear the islands accomodate that amount easily. For those with money or those wanting a resort syle holiday, Hawaii is perfect. For those with less money or those looking for more adventure, Hawaii is also perfect.
If you have lots of time, amble from one island to another, however if time is limited you can stick to one island and still make the most of it. Honolulu is a teeming cultural and economic powerhouse, but in under an hour you can be alone in the rainforest or snoozing on white sand.
