Charmane wrote:as long as they eat them vicki! thats great Smile do you crumb your own fish? we bought a deep fryer AGES ago from aldi, still haven't used it {can't bear to soak our food in fat! LOL} BUT it would be good to fry some stuff up hehhe....

I'm eating my fave cheese - brie.... and biscuits with a glass of wine.... now to scrap! I'm just editing photos atm though Smile

It was just frozen fish in the oven tonight, but come summer when Matt and Ashan start fishing, we will have LOTS of fresh fish to eat, then we will be crumbing our own!! Smile Yum!! Smile We normally just shallow fry the fish in the electric frypan!! Smile

I have a deep fryer that we used to use to make our own chips, but it hasn't been out of the cupboard for about 12mths cos its easier to just nick down the road and grab chips when we need them!! Smile

What's Cooking...?? - Page 5 680678 about the brussel sprouts Ant!!! My mum was the same - forced the eat them as a child and HATED them, so they never made it on the menu at our place. (They probably didnt taste as bad as you remember though, coz they used to boil the life out of all veges back then and you didnt overcook them. The cabbage family release sulphur when they are overcooked - hence the horrible bitter taste you remember.)
And yep, our roast veges were YUMMY... What's Cooking...?? - Page 5 Icon_wink

Well we were gonna have roasted chicken pieces and vegies but when Ray came home from having his surgery (after fasting for close to 2 days) he decided he was gonna be a pig (his words). We ended up getting pizza AND Maccas......yep - really healthy that was. What's Cooking...?? - Page 5 Icon_rolleyes He was the only one of all of us that managed to have both....blahhhhh.

i agree sue! you are very lucky vicki! Now that we are down here though, we have the opportunity, but not an overnight stay, thing it would be too much.... specially with THREE of them hehhe.... I just loved the fact that mum was able to look after them on wednesday when I had to do the LL party and Ashan had his first day of his job - def a lifesaver!!! I'm looking forward to having a night out to dinner just ashan and I.... now that he has a job, it might happen SOON! wahooo!

I really would like some of the recipes - the stir fry you made the other night Vicki sounded wonderful....and Charm what are srilankan vegies and dahl - some recipes please.....and the curry that you had the other night. Sounds yummo.

We had the chicken and roast vegies that we were meant to have last night....ended up having my sister and her partner over too. They decided we needed sweets (we never eat sweets) so they brought an apple and rhubbarb crumble and we had custard with it....even I enjoyed that.

only srilankans can make srilankan food.... ROFL i've attempted but it's never as good! We buy our curry powders/spices from indian/srilankan shops in melbourne too, so if you don't have the right stuff its hard to get it "right" iykwim?

dhal are lentils though - the yellow ones that you can buy in the soup section, but as i have discovered are a lot cheaper in the "asian" section of the supermarket.... Rolling Eyes go figure! you add onion, garlic, curry powder, tumeric, curry leaves.... and some other stuff that ashan adds and the way he cooks it so much better than me.... he just gives me the easy stuff to do - cut up the onions, garlic, ginger.... and cook the rice heheh.... i'm happy with that Wink
