Avatar 3D!!!
Hi guys!
Went and saw James Cameron's "Avatar" the other night with hubby on IMAX 3D and OMG it was soooo awesome!!!
It's a turning point in cinematic entertainment!!!
If anyone has the opportunity to see this in 3D at the movies, it's well worth seeing! You feel like you're in the movie - pure escapism to the MAX!!!
We really loved it!!!

Re: Avatar 3D!!!
I know of a few people who have been to see it and loved it. Just not my cup of tea I'm afraid, LOL.
Having said that if DH gets it out on DVD well I might watch it. He has the game and is loving that even.

Yes, I saw it 3D and it was FANTASTIC! I didn't think I'd be into it as usually sci-fi is not my thing, but this was an absolute exception.

Re: Avatar 3D!!!
I love sci-fi, but then again, I love almost every genre of movie!
I also love Titanic, Terminator, T2 and Aliens which were all by James Cameron.
I'm glad you saw it in 3D Mandy, it was so amazing in 3D!
I think Avatar will be the start of a new wave of cinema! It'll get the box office attendance up for sure!
Onya Jimmy!

Re: Avatar 3D!!!
Chantal & Mandy just a quick question, in your opinioun, is Avatar appropriate for a 10 year old boy? I would love to see this and so would my son, but I am not sure it would be OK for him....I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
Re: Avatar 3D!!!
Oooh, not sure Anthea. There is a bit of bad language and violence/fighting, and I don't really know 10 y.o. boys! But I would think it should be ok, however would like to hear Chantal's opinion too!

Re: Avatar 3D!!!
Mmmm - it is hard to know! Like most movies these days I think that I will have to see it myself and make my own decision. I personally think alot of kids see alot of things they shouldn't be seeing these days, but marketing of some of these movies makes it really hard. Some examples of this (off the top of my head) are the Harry Potter Movies, The Spiderman movies, the Pirates of the Carribbean and Star Wars. Most of these movies are listed as M, but at least some of their advertising is geared towards kids and there is no lack of kids merchadise available with this this stuff plastered all over them (like pencil cases, colouring books, plates, cups....etc.) Matthew is 10 and starting grade 5 and even some of the stricter parents let their kids watch all of this. Yes, I know that I should do what I want and not follow what everyone else does, but I must admit it is sometimes really hard not to give in. Matthew has seen some of the Harry Potter Movies (there are one or two that I have not let him see), he has seen all of the Spiderman movies and he has seen (with some coniving on his part) all of the Star Wars movies. I took him and two of his friends to the movies for his birthday early December and while talking to them, found out that one of them had seen Avatar, both had seen New Moon etc. One of them also explained that he has seen one of the Saw movies and Wolf Creek. I am hoping he was just trying to impress the others, but he was explaining parts of the movie a little too well for my liking . Needless to say I think they were less than impressed when I made them see the only G movie at the time, which was Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, even though all three of them enjoyed it......ahhhh..... the dilemmas of parenting......
Re: Avatar 3D!!!
OMG - had seen Saw and Wolf Creek??? Oh my!
It must be very hard for parents to make that decision.
I know my eyebrows raised a bit when my friend let her two watch Twilight and Transformers.
But it's a judgement call I guess, it's also hard when your kids are at other people's places.
My other friend was non too impressed when her child came home to say she'd seen Lord of the Rings (how did she sit through it all).

Re: Avatar 3D!!!
I have really strong views on kids and TV and I wouldn't let my girls watch programs like that....this is my point of view not everybody would/will agree....I do believe that what you "feed/put into" a child (TV/movie/books) is going to have an effect on how they grow up, their beliefs and what they will be sensative to later on. My girls have only just watched Monsters Inc.....why, coz the oldest one was at somebodies home and saw the scene where the mosnster comes through the cupboard and it frightened her really badly....she had nightmares for months. Its something that you have to choose for your own children, its not really a choice that others can make for you. I have upset a few people by my strictness over the TV/movie/book thing, but hey these are my kids and its my choice!! Twilight for kids???? I saw a trailer and I'm not even going to watch it!!! I'm happy to go to see Avatar with Pete but he knows full well that if i find it to hard going for me to sit through then he will be watching it on his own while I go window shopping
How old are my girls......10 going into grade 5 and 8 going into grade 3, strict on them, well yes maybe, but I want them to grow up with great morals and good values!
Please this is my view......maybe not yours

Hi Anthea,
If your son has seen Spiderman 1, 2 & 3 and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, then Avatar has WAY less violence then these and would be fine for him. It's a borderline M rating really.
Violence is mild, not frightening and only two different swear words are uttered: "Sh*#" and "ass".
This link gives all the info. I'm addicted to this movie site (Internet Movie Data Base)!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0499549/parentalguide
I'm pretty strict too, but if you check out this site you get every detail of any profanity from all movies!
Very helpful indeed! I hope I'm of some help!

Re: Avatar 3D!!!
Thanks Chantal. I will check it out. DS has seen the Spiderman movies, but only while my Hubby and I were with him to explain things....if that makes sense. Revenge of the Sith was one movie that I did NOT want him to see, but unfortuantly, he told someone that it was alright (this was pretty easy as this person knew that he had seen some of the older star wars movies) and he saw it. Now if he is anywhere, everyone knows to check with us if the movie is OK. There is lots he wants to watch on TV that I simply refuse to let him watch.....including the Simpson's....now I have been really picked on for that - I honestly the believe the values in that are terrible.
Kathie....I applaud you for sticking to your guns. Even though I am fairly strict I have given in on occasion....maybe if I hadn't DS wouldn't be quite the contankerous little boy his is now......? LOL.
BTW - I hope I haven't offended anyone by what I wrote in my last post. I was just venting some of my frustrations. I really just wanted an opinion on the movie and DSs friend was the only one who I knew had seen it and I most definately did not respect his opinion

Re: Avatar 3D!!!
I didn't take any offence.....we all have different opinions and ways of doing stuff....the simpsons......never get airtime in this home either, they destroy family values and uphold stuff that is totally wrong....my vent for the morning.....I always love to hear what others think so thank you all for sharing......be pretty boring if we were all the same and liked the same things

Re: Avatar 3D!!!
Kathie, I applaud you, with keeping an eye on what your girls watch. I work in a Pre-school & I'm amazed at the
shows (especially"The Simpsons") that 3 & 4 year olds are allowed to watch

Re: Avatar 3D!!!
I hear you....I did 2 years as president at our local kindy (filled in a bit when teaching staff were away etc)......and I'm convinced that lots of the inappropriate play comes from our kids being exposed to certain elements/ideas/adult themes much to early in their life. TV is wicked lately, some of the cartoons are really for adults not kids!! Once again I'm expressing my opinion here girls
Simpsons are my pet hate......watched it and decided that it wasn't what I wanted to have in my home.....
Re: Avatar 3D!!!
I think everyone has very valid points and opinions and I am so glad that everyone can share them here. I think children are exposed to way too much too soon these days and the innocence of childhood disappears WAY too quickly.
(Having said that though, I am a total sucker for The Simpsons...but I have never been known for being a good girl! )

Re: Avatar 3D!!!
Sue, i don't really like the Simposon's, but do tolerate them as they are one of Matt's favourite shows, and he always sits down and watches the with Jorja!! She doesn't understand much of the humour, she just loves the brightness and the funy things the characters do.
And as for Monster's Inc Kathie, i LOVE that movie!! I love the kids animated movies and Jorja has seen a lot of those too!!

Maybe 20 years of the Simpsons can explain some of my behaviour. We are all fans in this house, including Brielle, who just loves Homer, but doesn't know why - perhaps because he is daddy's favourite...
