Thanks everyone for your comments on the last photo....here are some more.

We had a little impromptu photo shoot here at our house today....I think my skills are developing quite nicely. Everyone of these shots were taken in FULL manual mode. WooHoo!!!! Just a bit of tweaking on 2 or 3 of them with my basic pic editor. Rays fav is the 4th one....I love it too, but can't pick a fav.

Oh definitely the last one! All very cute though

LMAO Ant, i was trying to wash the dishes and he came and shoved his little chair in under my feet, then climbed up and started playing in the water, so i took a pic of him on my phone to send to Matt and thought i couldn't not take a photo with the camera as well!! lmao!!

As for the socks, i wanted to get Jorja some new longer than ankle socks the other day and those were the only socks i could get at kmart that weren't ankle socks!! I didn't realise they were knee highs until i pulled them out of the packet, and of course because Jorja was modelling them for me, Bj had to have a pair on too!! Aren't his legs just so cute and skinny in those socks!!

And finally, the pic on the bike, he had just gotten home from a night at the farm with daddy, the first time matt had stayed a night with one of the kiddies without me, and he was sooo excited to be home, and just wanted to go for a ride on his bike. He had 'roger' the dog in the ute with him, so he had to ride the bike too!! Tooooooo cute!! Gotta love the new slippers too!! They are so long he couldn't bend his knees so i had to fold the top over!!

I love his slippers, ugg boots. I would really like to find myself a pair....

LOL, they were from Rivers!! I call them Uggy's as well, but have to say slippers to Bj for him to know what i am talking about!!

A couple of pics from the kids bowling practice this morning... Nothing major, but I like how they've come out... They're shot full manual, ISO 800, F 4.2 and speed of 1/40th second. It's really hard light at the bowling alley to work with, but I've found these settings the best

Very cool Treens, inside light is soooo much harder than outside light I find - I wish I could get it right when there is not much light around....I am guessing that practise makes perfect? I am not even sure my camera goes to F/ 4.2, I think the lowest is goes is F 4.5? Thanks for sharing.

thanks Ant I ADORE shooting low (I call it low, but technically it's larger because the opening in the lens is bigger) aperture - it also means more light gets to the 'film' so a shorter shutter speed For this I used the zoom that was part of the twin lens package that came with my camera (Nikon D60) It's a Nikkor 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 lens. My fave lens though is my 50mm f1.8 - I'd love one day to upgrade for a f1.4, but at the moment the bank wont let me LOL

Do you read your lighting off your light meter in the camera? if not can you take a test shot in an auto feature you trust and take the readings from there as to what manual settings are closest to get the result you want? That's pretty much all I've done to learn how to use my camera... all trial and error and your right- lots of PRACTISE!! Thank goodness we're in the digital age and no longer using film - that was an expensive time!!! LOL

I am in the market for a 50 mm now. Sue's nephew, Nich, uses only that to shoot, and a couple of other people I know that do great photography also use a 50mm. I really want a f/ 1.4 but at the moment an f/ 1.8 might be more realistic....there is about $400 difference in price. Just waiting on some feedback from the lovely Nich and some other people as to what they recommend. (Sue - Nich did say I could fire some questions at him - I just took him up on the offer - he is the PERFECT person to ask because he has exactly the same camera as me.....!)

Ant - hammer Nich with as many questions as you like and if he is slack in answering you, let me know and I will kick him up the bum for you! He is VERY sweet though, and always only too happy to help others, so bug him as much as you like! He was actually off on a shoot today and has his younger brother Dave helping him (apparently Dave was having trouble concentrating though coz the model wasn't wearing much...LMAO!)

Hahaha about Dave, Sue it would be hard to concentrate I would say. I am trying not to annoy Nich too much, but have asked him a few questions. He is a sweetie for sure. He even invited me to his personal page....so we could talk shop if I liked.....I liked. I told him he could check out my photos too - although he will think my work is like kids stuff compared to what he does.....LOL. Thanks for putting me on to him....although I am sure this was NOT your intention when you did......LOL.

He wouldnt be annoyed at all Ant, like I said he loves helping other people out and would be happy to talk shop til the cows come home (as long as you mean photography and not carpet laying though...LOL) He is such a sweetie and very talented, I want to share him with EVERYONE!!!
