Vic and Kat's mini mystery challenge
As you all probably know, we normally start the party, with the bigger of the two mystery challenges, however tonight we are starting with the mini challenge, and within the hour, you will find out why!! J
Now, for this challenge, you all need to run off real quick, put the kettle on and make yourselves a cuppa!! J For this challenge we are going to be ‘ageing’ stuff from our stashes using tea/coffee/brown ink!! The stuff that you ‘age’ will be needed for the next challenge!! J
Here are some tips from Kathie for ageing stuff.
-Paper can be inked with pale brown ink and left blotchy-best paper colours to do this with are pale greens, beige, light browns or creams.
-another method is to have some cold tea (very strong) or coffee and lightly with a cotton ball moistened just sort of brush it over your page in several different directions.
-lace and ribbon can be aged with inks or tea/coffee. They need to be cotton or have a high cotton content as nylon or polyester won't take the tea or coffee. But nylon and polyester can be aged with inks!! To use the tea/coffee method for dying ribbons, just add ribbons to a cup of very strong coffee or tea and leave for a minimum of 1 hour. Then take out of the cup and hang to dry.......do not rinse or squeeze excess moisture out of item.
-Flowers can be aged with tea or coffee or inks too. It’s a little different though, as you just brush the liquid sparing onto the flowers and only the papers ones are successful. All flowers can be inked to give an aged look though.
-To speed up drying if I a hurry, you can iron your items between some tea towels, however I found they didn’t take excessive time to dry!! J
So… your challenge is to find some stuff in your stash to age!! J Once you have aged your items, take a pic and upload to the opening night mystery challenge folder before 8am Saturday (time extended for drying time) morning!! J
Here are some I prepared earlier!! All these items began life very white (but I forgot to take a before pic):
