Air force one passed overhead a little bit ago here in michigan! President Obama spoke at a community college here today. Everyone is glad hes back to speak in Mi, since its been so hard here with the car companies going under. People seeing the motorcade go by actually cried and are hoping for a turnaround in the economy here! i wasent able to go because my son was being tested for autism today. It was a long test, and they said hes very intelligent, but has some sensory and behaviour issues. Just getting him ready for pre-K!

Sounds like a pretty big day, in all. Do those behaviour issues "mean" autism??

I have worked with children with an Autistic Spectrum disorder (namely Aspergers syndrome) and found them to be a delight. Whilst they did have some issues with behaviour, I found them to be no more anti-social or poorly behaved than the so-called "normal" kids. I think almost every child has their own individual behavioural challenges and quirks, whether we have an official name for them or not.

thanks Sue! my 19 yr old has some problems which i thought was aspergers but the school said i was reading into things that werent there, but i KNOW she should have been diagnosed as having this. My 5 yr old who was tested is very smart ( he can tell you ALL about Lincoln or Kennedy or astronauts) but has problems with loud noises and people singing to him etc. He gets overstimulated very easily.

I recently read an article about children who were classified as being "hyper sensitive". It just meant that they were more sensitive than most to sounds, textures, tastes, etc. BUT the article also mentioned that these children are often more sensitive than most when it comes to emotions. It said these kids often grew up into adults who were involved in "caring" professions such as nursing, social work, teaching, etc as they have a gift for being empathetic with others. Not such a bad trait to have in my opinion!
