Scrapbooking Memories Masters 2011

Masters is back and it’s time for you to be a part of our most highly regarded talent search on the scrapbooking calendar! Scrapbooking Memories is calling you to be creative and start working on your unique entry for this year’s competition. There is a huge prize pool worth $30,000 to be won and each Master will receive $3000 worth of prizes plus the opportunity to work for Scrapbooking Memories for a year! Entries are now open and with such fantastic prizes up for grabs, you’d be crazy not to enter.

Masters 2011 – Why should I enter?

This year’s winners will be published in a special Masters edition of Scrapbooking Memories magazine dedicated entirely to featuring the talented Masters and their entries!

Each winning Master will receive a huge scrapping prize pack valued at $3000 – definitely enough to keep them busy for the whole year! The amazing prizes this year are courtesy of Maya Road, Print Blocks, Abi's Craft, Scrap FX, Stampin' Up!, Stamp-It, Bo Bunny, Darkroom Door, Jo Sonja's and Nikki Sivils.
Winners will hold the respected title of Scrapbooking Memories Master for 12 months and have the opportunity to be involved in special editorial features, product challenges and online opportunities during the year!

How to enter:

To enter this year’s Scrapbooking Memories Masters competition, simply follow these four easy steps …

Complete all of the 2011 Masters Tasks as listed below.
Complete the Masters Entry Coupon online at www.craftlovers.com and print it out, then send it, along with your original entry, to: Scrapbooking Memories Masters Competition, 50 Silverwater Rd, Silverwater NSW 2128 by the close of business August 12, 2011.
Email the following to masters@expresspublications.com.au
A portrait shot of yourself – this must be a high-resolution head-shot (300dpi and 10cm x 10cm in size.) Keep in mind this may be used if you become a Master so please ensure it is of the highest quality.
Full materials list for each of your projects.
Tell us about your projects; we want to know what inspired you, why you chose the products you did, what the photos mean to you, what you found challenging about the task and so on. Please provide at least 100 words for each project (400 words in total). This may be published if you become a Master so remember, the more you write, the better!

Note: The combined size of all projects must be NO BIGGER THAN an Australia Post Mailing Box Bx4, with dimensions (430mm x 305mm x 140mm). Due to storage restrictions and postage costs any entries BIGGER than this will not be considered.

2011 MASTER TASKS
This year we’ve tried to keep the focus on preserving your special memories. These tasks should challenge you, but still allow your own personal style to shine through – we hope you enjoy creating them!

1. Scrap a single layout on any topic or theme you wish. Your page can be 12in x 12in, 8in x 8in or 8½in x 11in; however, the design of your page must follow the sketch below. Keep in mind you can flip, rotate and interpret this sketch any way you see fit.
2. Create a single layout on any topic or theme you wish. Your page can be 12in x 12in, 8in x 8in or 8½in x 11in. This page must include a 5in x 7in photo. You can use any other photos you wish, just as long as there is one 5in x 7in photo on the layout somewhere.

3. Create a single layout on any topic or theme you wish. Your page can be 12in x 12in, 8in x 8in or 8½in x 11in. This page must include hidden journalling or hidden memorabilia somewhere on it. Use your imagination and think innovatively.

4. Create a double-page layout inspired by the colour combination below.
JUDGING CRITERIA

Each entry will be judged on the following:

Interpretation of the tasks
Strong attention to detail
Excellent craftsmanship
Design and composition
Photography
Techniques used
Originality
Innovation

THINGS TO REMEMBER

Scrapbooking Memories Masters is a competition. Each entry will be judged as a whole (all four tasks are judged as one) and every entry is given equal consideration. Entries are judged solely on the projects submitted for this competition. Whether you are a regular contributor to Scrapbooking Memories, or any other publication, plays no part in the judging process. This competition is designed to get you thinking creatively and to challenge you. Show us what you’re made of and create projects that showcase your abilities. You can use any products you wish and scrap about any topic you like, so what are you waiting for? Get started on your projects today!

NOTE: Please send in your completed projects as entries this year. Only entries that follow the above guidelines will be accepted. For further information, please refer to full conditions of entry at www.craftlovers.com

Good luck to those giving it a whirl !!!

There are some incredibly talented scrappers here at Top 50 and it would be awesome to see "one of our own" become one of the Masters.

I'm not planning to enter though... I even chickened out on submitting a LO that Sue was encouraging me to send in to the mag for publication.

I think the self-confidence (or lack there of) in our own abilities to create something as good as some of the work that gets published stops a lot of people giving it a go...

And I know that there is that old adage of "nothing ventured, nothing gained" but sometimes I think that just sharing our work with our forum buddies here and elsewhere is daunting enough at times. But at least we know that here we are safe amongst friends and that we share the luv xx

That said... Good Luck to all of you who are braver than me - I would love to be able to read the Masters issue of SMB and say "hey, look it's my Top 50 bud ..."

xx

are you kidding Sue?
You are so talented (as are all the lovely ladies on this forum) so why not give it a go?
I will. I know my style isn't great but it's not hurting anyone to give it a go, even if it's only for a bit of fun.

Imagine if you did win how awesome it would be!

awww, you're sweet Jules, but I'm just not confident enough to have a go...I'll think about, how's that??? Wink

as for you Linda...I understand where you are coming from, but as I said, if you can handle rejection, then you have nothing to lose by trying. (I sent 7 LOs in the other day to get my one acceptance, and can't tell you how many other rejections I've had, but it doesn't bother me to get the "no" emails back.) SM gets THOUSANDS of subs, so I figure I am in very esteemed "rejection" company...LOL
