Hey Vicki forget something love???

Okay a very delayed post today.....so for todays giveaway we have assorted packets of buttons and a fine glue pen!! Now today can you tell us about your first dinner party....either the first you catered for or the first you attended and of course we what to hear about all the embarrassing moments!! Product giveaway #3 680678
Mine??? we ok....I had a boyfriend that I desperately loved and all his friends were very up market and older than me, always being resourseful....I asked him to invite his friends to a dinner party...he was a bit surprised and mumbled something about me embarrassing him.....well I cooked up a storm, even went and bought some beautiful crystal wine glasses, yes still own them, and our menu was:
Seafood cocktail
Baked whole stuffed snapper ( it was huge & yummy)
Chocolate liquier pears (ultra yummy)
and just for good measure, a pineapple upside down cake to serve with coffee later.....
Yes it was a total hit....I shocked them alll....sadly they all decided to compete and try to outdo me....was pretty unpleasent(they were pretty horrid to me after that) and that was pretty much the end of our relationship!! Which actually turned out to be a good thing!! Product giveaway #3 Icon_biggrin
Now lets hear your lovely stories

Oh - that is not nice is it Kathie? But good on you for doing such a great job. Really the only 'official' dinner party I ever held was for a Murder mystery night. It was set on a train in Paris and I was a lady or princess or somthing...(can not quite remember). What I do remember is that I followed the dinner menu they suggested to a T...and it called for flambed chicken. I did what it suggested, poured the alcohol all over the chicken and lit it alight and vroom I had a huge fire.... the fact that I used an electric frying pan made the flame huge and I mean huge - it was hillarious!!!!!! All in all the meal was pretty good for a non cook...but I will never forget my one and only attempt at 'flambeing'.

Well um don't think I've ever really had a 'proper' dinner party.
Guess the closest thing woule be us girls getting together every so often and take in turns to 'host' the dinner. Everyone would bring a course, main meal supplied by the host to make things easier.
But I don't have any embarrassing stories Sad

Hmmm my first dinner party... Well officially I guess it was our engagement party - that was only finger food and BBQ though... We've only ever had one 'official' dinner party - the one I mentioned earlier where I burnt the veggies Wink And that was enougb for me ROFL - ever since then it's been BBQ's all the way - that way if it's burnt it's half expected haha

Okay, well you've all probably read about my disasterous attempt with making Mushroom Soup (aka watery mud in a bowl)... so I'll share my most embarrassing moment at someone elses dinner party... Product giveaway #3 Icon_redface

It was pretty posh and I was about 18 and still pretty unworldly but tried my hardest to fit in and be polite to my hosts. I even managed to not screw my nose up as I forced down a sip of the wine but when the entree came out I looked at my plate and burst into tears and had to run to the bathroom.

You see my favourite pet budgie had died the day before and what lay before me was a baked quail!!! I'd never seen (or eaten) a quail. I knew the shape was like a chicken, but surely they'd never cook a chicken so little... in my mind all I could think about was "oh no, they expect me to eat Budgie!".
Product giveaway #3 Affraid
I made up an excuse that I had suddenly come over very unwell and went home where I bawled my eyes out for the rest of the night.
Product giveaway #3 Icon_cry
To this day, I still cannot even come close to eating quail.

I don't think I've ever had a dinner party as such, I've had friends over for dinner but only one couple at a time. And no disasters, yet Product giveaway #3 680678 I've had plenty of BBQ's where I've made all the salads and deserts for 30+ people, oh and one year we had a New Years Eve party and the drip tray thingy under the BBQ started leaking so smart me grabbed a tea towel and yep, you guessing it, up she went in flames, quite funny actually, but not for my $15 Lorraine Lea Linen tea towel.

ROFL Shaz, reminds me of a BBQ when we had some work mates over for the first time. Nathan loves his BBQ, but cleaning it is another thing... I looked out the window and thought it was smoking a bit more than usual... yep you guessed it - it had caught alight!! He SHOULD have cleaned the tray underneath but kept putting it off one time too many...

The big problem with this time though is that it was backed along the dry old paling fence between us and the neighbours house!!! It started glowing but didn't actually catch alight thank goodness!!! The BBQ still has the scars of that day - and he now cleans the tray - most times ROFL

LOL, we normally just have a BBQ when we are having people over!! Smile No disaster stories for us either!! Smile

I did have big cook up for mothers day this year tho. We had Matt's mum, her bf, and his sister all here for tea. I know that doesn't sound like many people, but it was mother's day after all, and i shouldn't have been the one to spend ALL afternoon in the kitchen!! I had decided in the morning that i wanted Pork roast (Mmmm my fave) and roast vegies for tea, then Matt decided to invite his mum, who suggested we get take-away pizza for tea, but there was no way i was not having my roast for tea, so i spent the arvo in the kitchen cooking pumpkin soup for entree, roast pork with all the trimmings for main, and i was going to have apple crumble for dessert, but mil bought a couple of frozen cheesecakes!! Smile

We were all stuffed after the meal, but at least we were happy!! Smile

Hmmm...no dinner parties for me either and no disasters of my own, but I do have a couple of funny stories...
the first was when my mum was young and she went over to her boyfriend's house for a fancy dinner with his parents. While she was eating she licked the knife she was using and cut all the inside of her mouth open with it...LOL
the second was a similiar incident to one Treens mentioned. My DP and his mates were having a BBQ and went inside to get more beers. While there, they got distracted and totally forgot that nobody was watching the BBQ. A short time later, knock at the door and it was the next door neighbour..."boys, is that your BBQ that has just burned our fence down?"

would have been 6 months after we where married or so , I asked all our friends up for a fun night of wine and pizza was on the menu one of our friends gave us a pizza kit for a present

so I rang a lady for pizza dough receipe , it didn't look enough so I tripled it , dough looked good when I popped it into the deep base pan

well mmmm we found cutting it hard because it was yeast based and rose up heaps , our mouths weren't bigger enough to go round the base let alone the topping

I have never lived that night down but ohh we had some great memories of that night

heaps better at pizza making now
